The Bank of Italy’s Decision on Certified Email (PEC)

The Bank of Italy has announced that, from 4 August 2023, messages sent to its Certified Email (PEC) address (bancaditalia@pec.bancaditalia.it) will only be accepted if they are originated from PEC addresses.

Anyone who wishes to send an e-mail to the institution by means of ordinary electronic mail can do so by using the specific addresses indicated on the website of the Bank of Italy. Messages sent by ordinary electronic mail to the Bank of Italy’s PEC mailbox will receive an automatic reply indicating that the message has not been delivered.

The objective of the Authority is to clearly distinguish certified electronic mail (PEC) messages from ordinary electronic mail messages, thus providing greater security for PEC messages, which have the same legal value as registered letters with acknowledgement of receipt.
