ESMA : Call for Evidence on sustainability in product suitability and governance

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), – by means of a Call for Evidence (CfE) has invited companies subject to Directive 2014/65/EU – i.e. investment firms and credit institutions providing investment advice, Fund management companies (UCITS) and external alternative investment fund managers (AIFMs) – to submit inputs on the integration of sustainability preferences into suitability assessments and product governance arrangements governed by the MiFID II regime (Directive 2014/65/EU).

The objective of this Call for Evidence (CfE) is to collect industry feedback regarding the evolution of the market and provide answers as to how firms are applying the new MiFID rules on sustainability.

With the CfE, ESMA also aims to analyze investor experience and reactions to the inclusion of sustainability factors in investment advice and portfolio management services.

ESMA will take into consideration all contributions received by 15 September 2023 and sent using the appropriate form on the authority’s website .
